When it comes to meditation and the idea of consciousness expansion, there is a clear stereotype at work. People honestly believe that the only ones who will understand, contribute to, or participate in meditation are wealthy people with time to spare and a willingness to spend up on techniques that may, or may not, have any real value. This is a stereotype The Bright Path Ishayas are doing their part to obliterate. The Bright Path Ishayas honestly believe that anyone, regardless of income, education, race, sex or creed, can benefit from consciousness-raising exercises. And, The Bright Path Ishayas are doing more than just talking about the issue. They’re taking their program on the road, offering teachings to vulnerable people everywhere.
To provide just one example of this work, The Bright Path Ishayas have taught multiple classes in prisons all around the world. People who are incarcerated have a deep and lasting need for peace and consciousness expansion. They (obviously) cannot leave the physical space in which they live, but by using the power of the mind, they can transcend their surroundings and move into a higher plane. They can also leave behind the violence that suffuses modern prisons, and work to achieve peace in their own lives. Changing the mind and the consciousness of just one prisoner could have a ripple effect on the rest of the incarcerated community. This one person could spread peace to everyone else, helping to make the prison community just a bit more bearable.
Between the years of 2006 and 2009, The Bright Path Ishayas taught 5,000 prisoners the fundamentals of Ascension in Mexico. In 2010, the Bright Path Ishayas took the program to America, teaching prisoners in Colorado about Ascension. The work continues to this day.
By bringing the benefits of Ascension to people in desperate need, The Bright Path Ishayas do their part to help reduce suffering in the world and help more people achieve true happiness, no matter where they live and no matter what their personal circumstances might be.
When asked to describe the work and essential teachings of The Bright Path Ishayas, most people would launch into a long description of the meditation courses they’ve taken and the lessons they’ve learned to move past the petty concerns of day-to-day life and into a greater understanding of, and relationship to, the Divine. While it is true that The Bright Path Ishayas do focus at least some of their work on meditation, their overall goal is more inclusive. The Bright Path Ishayas seek nothing less than expanding consciousness. Meditation can help to do this, but there are other ways to expand the mind that have nothing to do with meditation. The Bright Path Ishayas are exploring such an avenue in their newest project.
The Isham Arte Consciente program from The Bright Path Ishayas is dedicated to expanding consciousness through art. The program, which is based in Mexico, contracts with artists who are willing to produce sculptures that seem to tell viewers something innovative and profound about the nature of life and being human.
It’s hard to truly understand the power of these sculptures without seeing them in person. Even viewing the pieces on a computer screen may not do them justice. One set of sculptures, for example, contains human torsos, male and female. The female torso is hugely pregnant, and the male torso bends above her protectively, almost touching, but not quite. There are multiple ways in which this pair could be interpreted, and some people who have studied the sculptures at length find that deeper and deeper meanings seem to become apparent, the longer the sculptures are observed.
Another set of sculptures shows a stylized human form, seemingly cut in half by a river or a path, leading to a heart shape within the brain. This abstract piece might call out one specific message to members of The Bright Path Ishayas, but it might have a completely different message for people unfamiliar to the teachings of the program.
Art like this may be beautiful, of course, but its power goes much deeper, according to The Bright Path Ishayas. Art like this can help people break through their thought patterns and the limitations they place on their own imagination and creativity. Art like this could cause expanded consciousness.

In one example, an individual began using crystal meth around 1990 and failed to stop after multiple attempts to quit. He exhibited many of the symptoms associated with crystal meth, from mental conditions like psychosis, paranoia, voices, hallucinations, and the incessant belief of something terrible happening, to physical conditions such as extreme weight loss, heart and respiratory irregularities, dullness, apathy, toothaches, hearing and vision problems, muscle discord and damage. With these awful symptoms, the individual understood he was killing himself and dying every day. But no matter what he did, he could not stop and ended up starting up again in one way or another, further isolating himself from friends, family and positive influences that might make him stop doing crystal meth.
However, this individual decided to learn Ascension meditation and within four months he was completely done using crystal meth. He had assumed that he had done irreversible damage to both the mind and the body. Instead, he was able to repair some of the mental damage that was done, by using the Bright Path Ishayas’ Ascension Attitudes and the teachings based upon them. Ascension meditation healed exactly what he needed to have healed through mental techniques and pushing the individual towards finding comfort and security inside his inner self.

Through the meditation and Ascension Attitudes teachings, he was able to find inner peace and purity.
